Survey the existing trees before you fence, not after. Wilted black cherry leaves are the classic hazard: a windthrown branch left in a paddock can kill livestock within hours. Red maple is a serious risk for horses. Yew is lethal to almost everything. How Do You Establish Silvopasture?

Two routes, and they are almost opposite processes. From woodland you are subtracting: thinning trees until enough light reaches the floor to establish forage. From pasture you are adding: planting trees into ground that already grows grass, then protecting them for years.
